work in progress

Of minimalism, dancing towers, rainforest and alcoholism

MODERN MINIMALISM is the “why” I continue to look at opportunities of working with those who appreciate quality and are open to seeing interior spaces and architecture in a new light. I currently live in Malaysia where the idea and concept of modern minimalism is yet to surface the interior design industry as it does in places like Japan or London. Not that there is enough of us in the local industry who respect the principles of minimalism - it is the market we live in and the geography of our city that makes this amazing concept of design harder to familiarize with. I am an interior designer who wishes to bring “simple” into it’s purist form whether in process or in the finished product - I hope that either through the experience of working with me or the result of my work … I have somehow brought those I am fortunate to work with a better understanding of this process and aesthetic. In choice of color to the selection of materials to re-organizing … “less truly means more” more awareness of our surroundings and the impact our interior environments have on our lives.

Japan is a highly populated nation where order and the understanding of space come hand in hand with the design process. European to Asian nations where property value, resources such as electricity or water are more regulated, seem to be more advanced with their technology and building techniques - this relationship is directly reflected in their lifestyle and holistic approach to architecture and design.

MODERN MINIMALISM to me is the honesty of materials and use of space that help transform our experience within an environment into its simplest form of appreciating the details.

Wouldn’t it be an amazing concept to have the design process of making a “home” be translated into all types of environments as one of my mentors has once said “the guiding principal for the design of public or institutional spaces should be that people visiting the space feel as if they are being welcomed into a home. The experience of going to the doctor, dentist, or an event to school would be utterly transformed” - HL.

Sometimes I wonder why do I work for a firm which doesn’t appreciate minimalism. I can be such a sell out -__-

we’re pitching for the Zaha Hadid’s Dancing Tower’s interior architecture.

I searched for WIFI connection so I can work on the design proposal narrative while they partied on the beach. I ended up sitting among a pile of slippers near the door. My first real holiday after recovering was totally ruined.

p.s. thank you all for letting me shamelessly intrude your space.

Simon Le Bon and his queer friends.

Boon and my bottle of ginger tuak.

Eddie

I so shouldn’t share my tuak and Siang Pure with them.

Andre & Stefan were meant to be at melt festival! where Pat & Mario are.

my room mate & I found Sandra.

Lovebirds 2007 and a camel bag of tuak!

Kenny and random. I fail horribly with names.

Andy and I mimicking *someone*

Carlos

Sue hearts YC

Adam needs food.

Richard, my H20 supplier who’s always announcing “to the pool! to the pool!” with excitement.

And finally, the last show.

6 months of sobriety and recuperation has made me indulge in so much tuak, i literally pissed tuak for the last 4 days.

Finally, I had fun.

(minus the second night when AnnoyingHighSchoolGirl’s fat drunk ah lian friend fell, stepped on my hip and kicked me on my head, not forgetting fat bastard who nearly crushed my knee. and the hide and seek from the AHSG. and feeling kinda sick that AHSG’s bf looks exactly like a carbon copy of her own brother. for a moment I thought I was witnessing a case of incest. ew.)

2nd to the right, the fat bastard who was out there to kill everyone. he was playing tabla with his beer belly before crushing on to Buttercup n I.

did anyone realize there are extra obese topless men with man tits this year?

Your blog on modern minimalism rings a bell to me and like you I’m doing my best to show my clients the beauty of these spaces. You’re doing a good job explaining this to your readers I’m sure in a few years time the new generation of clients in Malaysia will appreciate this style (and hopefully by then we will be ready to capture the design market with our expertise hahaha!) Hadid’s dancing tower is so sexy…and your firm is pitching for the id job..hope you guys get the project! By the way do you guys use a lot of 3d visualization for your projects? How good is the expertise back in Malaysia?

I was a bit surprised by all of the guys who decided to go shirtless even though they were a bit soft around the middle. Of course, considering the humidity, maybe it was a smart idea.

Also that girl with Kenny is also a Malaysian blogger with a decent following, her blog is found at quaintly.net.

Love Hadid’s towers, though how’s the upper leaning bit going to be worked out structurally?

I suppose it’s possible if all three towers are against each other?

    Good luck with the proposal.

I tried very much to avoid that but there are just too many of them around this year.

    half naked chicks I don’t mind…
